Tim is a retired fire captain that served over 27 years with the Surrey Fire Department. He has years of community service, advocacy for firefighters and ongoing charity work. He is serving his 1st term on Council.

We need to continue catching up with growth, improve public safety, and expand our youth sports infrastructure and programming. We have a great team on Council geting it done.

ABOUT TIM

For over 10 years Tim has made Langley Township his home for him and his family, partner Karen, son Reese and his family. His extensive experience in the emergency services field, coaching minor sports and helping persons in poverty and homelessness, gives our team insight in these fields based on decades of hands on first hand life experiences.

With over 27 years as a firefighter while retiring as a captain with Surrey Fire Services, Tim has seen the needs of emergency services in Langley Township. These experiences include 8 years as a British Columbia Professional Firefighters Association (BCPFFA) Vice-President where he was the chair of their OH&S and Legislative Committees where he lead the successful campaign to achieve the first 8 Presumptive Cancers in legislation and also the Presumptive Heart legislation. He also was an instructor for the Fire Academy of the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) where he taught leadership and legal aspects of fire service leaders.

In this career and union activities he has been recognized with 2 meritorious awards, a BCPFFA Vice-President Emeritus award, a IAFF Local 1271 Silver Axe Award, IAFF Local 1271 Alumni Award, the BC Long Service Medal, the Canadian Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal, Surrey Fire Services Safety Star Award and nominated for the 2001 Surrey Fire Services Firefighter of the Year Award.

Tim has also served the community as a union leader. Not only was he as previously mentioned a leader in the International Association Of Firefighters but represented them on the New Westminster and District Labour Council Executive, the BC Federation Of Labour Executive and Occupational Health and Safety Committee.

In 2010 Tim was on the founding team along with Karen Bowman and RCMP Sergeant Robert Nordlund that started Drop It And Drive (DIAD) and was the first organization to raise awareness and give presentations regarding the problem of Distracted Driving and Distracted Walking. They have presented to schools and organizations across North America with reality based presentations and are now part of the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) Tim is still a speaker along with RCMP Staff Sergeant Bryan Fedirchuk who has almost 30 years experience as a Motor Officer.

Tim became a single father of his two sons Kyle and Reese and while raising them was also recognized for his volunteer work at their school, coached both of them and many others in numerous sports, volunteered with many boards and organizations. His community service has taken many aspects including:

  • Created and ran a monthly feeding program for 10 years feeding the homeless monthly

  • Created and ran a weekly bread supply program that has served Cob’s Bread products to homeless organizations, food banks and Langley seniors now in it’s 17th year and still participating

  • Coached 31 youth sports teams over a period of 40 years

  • Created and runs an event Toque Tuesday Hockey Day now in it’s 16th year that raises awareness, winter clothing, hygiene products in a fun Canadian way playing street hockey while supporting service organizations with goods and money

  • Supervised the BC Federation of Labour Annual Community Christmas Dinner for 21 years

  • Sat on the boards of Surrey Food Bank, Surrey Urban Mission Society, Newton Advocacy Group Society, United Way of the Lower Mainland

  • Awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal

  • Surrey Minor Lacrosse Coach of the Year

  • Volunteer of the year Coyote Creek Elementary School

  • MS Canada Opal Award Nominee

  • Rode in the MS Ride for now 22 years to help raise awareness and funding for MS research

  • Helped with efforts in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina

I ran for council to provide needed experience to council to ensure that Langley Township is not only safer, but also a great place to raise children. Building many different sports opportunities for all children serves the community, with our youth learning real like skills in team sport.
