Michael was born and raised in Langley, and earned his Bachelor of Commerce from UBC and a Master's in Urban Studies from SFU. He brings deep community roots, a sincere love of Langley, and real-world experience in urban planning to Council.
I ran for Council to make sure that every generation can see a future for themselves in Langley and can be proud to call this place home.
We need to be a community that builds amazing amenities, plans for complete neighbourhoods, and continues to deliver the best quality of life anywhere in British Columbia.
— Michael PrattCOUNCILLOR
Michael Pratt is a first-term Township of Langley Councillor who has called Langley home for his entire life. Born at Langley Memorial Hospital and raised in Murrayville, heβs lived in Langley City, Willowbrook, and now is happy to be back in Murrayville near the Langley Regional Airport.
After graduating from Brookswood Secondary, Michael attended the University of British Columbia β commuting from Langley during his last two years of schooling β and earned his Bachelor of Commerce from the Sauder School of Business, specializing in Real Estate Development and Urban Land Economics.
In 2025, Michael completed his Master's in Urban Studies at Simon Fraser University, where his thesis examined walkability and the pedestrian realm in the Willoughby Town Centre. That research helped him to fully understand how Langley has been planned and built until now, and how we can make sure that moving forward, Langley grows the right way β building complete communities in a phased, orderly fashion with a mix of uses and nearby amenities.
Outside of Council, Michael owns a boutique urban planning company and spends his time serving the community through various not-for-profits. This commitment to service started as a teenager, when he co-founded Langley Youth for the Fallen: A Walk to Remember with his older sister.
This organization worked with community partners and the Township of Langley to raise the money to build a memorial grove at the Derek Doubleday Arboretum which honours the 158 Canadian soldiers killed during the war in Afghanistan. He has served in the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Army Reserve and has served as Council Co-Chair of the Agricultural Advisory Committee and the Recreation, Culture, and Parks Advisory Committee during this past term.
Michael has been recognized for his community contributions with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, a Paul Harris Fellowship from Rotary International, a Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation Medal, and nominations for the Pete Swensson Outstanding Community Youth Award as well as the John and Murial Arnason Award.
