SEAN STEVENSON

Sean Stevenson has lived in Langley for the past three years with his partner, who is a graduate of Walnut Grove Secondary. They chose Langley to raise their family because it provided a balance between a tight-knit community similar to the one he grew up in and the amenities and opportunities of a larger municipality.

Sean’s own experience in school was challenging. He often struggled to feel like he belonged and recognizes now that he did not have the support he needed to succeed. When he graduated, Sean found himself without a clear direction and spent several years exploring different opportunities, feeling ill-prepared for the real world.

He found his path with the trades, earning his Red Seal in glazing and progressing into leadership after earning his 4^th class Power engineering certificate. Through this journey, he learned how the right environment and the right support can help someone recognize and reach their potential.

That experience shaped Sean’s belief that young people needed a strong foundation to explore different paths. Having benefited from second chances himself, he spent two years volunteering with the Take a Hike Foundation, mentoring young people facing some of the same challenges he experienced growing up. He saw a lot of himself in the youth he worked with and wanted to be someone they could talk to and rely on.

Sean believes students do their best when they know there are people in their corner and a community where they feel like they truly belong. He wants schools to give kids a strong foundation, the confience to take chances, learn from mistakes, and discover what they are capable of.

Sean is running for School Trustee because he wants to contribute to the community he and his family call home. He believes that starts with listening to students, families, and the people working in schools. Sean wants to take the time to understand what is working and what could be better, building the kind of school experience he wishes he had growing up.
