$200M in Community Amenity Contributions
Our opposition says developer amenities are illegal. They are not. They say this for support from a handful developers, and taxpayers will be stuck with the bill.
Growth needs to pay for growth, not taxpayers. If our opposition is elected, they will forego $200 million in Community Amenity Contributions from development. Our plan is working. We have had record high development revenues at the Townshi of up $100 million per year, even while we slow our growth rate and remove 500 acres of land from development as we allow infrastructure to catch up.
We cannot afford to go back to the way things were, with developer-led Council imposing their costs onto taxpayers. Our opposition critics wants to take us back to a time when growth didn’t pay for growth, and infrastructure projects like 208th Street are left unfinished for decades even as we add thousands of new residents. We have to put residents and taxpayers first.
The Langley Housing Trust
A long-term below-market housing plan for Langley's young working families and vulnerable residents with 330 units under constreuction in partnership with the Province of British Columbia. By Langley, for Langley.
Starting with a Provincial program called BC Builds, we established a new Township Housing Trust, to ensure that 10% of all new housing in Langley can be for rental and below market purposes, intended for Langley teachers, nurses, seniors, young people, and workers.
Our critics have announced that they will terminate The Langley Housing Trust for more attainable and affordable housing for so many before it even has a chance to complete a single unit, and sell it off. This is no surprise, as developers would love to buy it. We must not let that happen, and ensure we continue to develop, expanded and get the Langley Housing Trust established to deliver some of the first below-market rental housing Langley has.
Township of Langley RCMP Detachment for Township Taxpayers
With SkyTrain on the horizon, this term, Progress For Langley advanced an RCMP Detachment for Townshop of Langley to save millions in policing costs and improve public safety for Township reisdents
With the City of Langley having a significantly higher crime severity index and an administration that does not adequately fund public safety, the Township of Langley had no other choice but to proceed with the with de-intergration of the Langley RCMP detatchment, which passed with an unanimous vote of Council.
This term, we hired 11 new RCMP officers and continue to prioritize a Township of Langley detachment for Township residents and taxpayers. With SkyTrain coming, we need to have Township police officers policing the Township, not a neighbouring municipality that does not prioritize public safety. This will save Township taxpayers money and will lead to better policing outcomes for Township residents.
The opposition has labelled creating a RCMP Detachment for the Township of Langley a "mistake" and will undo it, costing the Township of Langley millions of dollars being paid to subsifize policing in the City of Langley, costing Township of Langley taxpayers better policing and safety communities for the taxes we all pay.
